We’re thrilled to share an update on one of our dedicated adult ballet students, Gina Roberts. Since completing her Grade 4 Ballet Exam with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) in 2022, Gina has continued to excel—achieving high merits in both Grade 5 (2023) and Grade 6 (2024).
Driven to challenge herself further, she embarked on the RAD’s vocational exam pathway, which includes pointe work. Gina has successfully completed both the Intermediate Foundation and Intermediate exams, earning merit in each—a remarkable achievement for any dancer, especially one returning to ballet as an adult.
After starting adult ballet classes at our school, Gina began working closely with teacher Janet Seymour to refine her technique and prepare for these rigorous exams. She’s now setting her sights on Grade 7, with enthusiasm and determination.
Reflecting on her journey, Gina shared:
“Although I danced for a few years as a child, I never had the confidence to pursue pointe work. But thanks to the encouragement and support from Janet Seymour and Dales Dance, along with my success in the graded exams, I finally felt ready to attempt the vocational levels—and achieve my dream of dancing en pointe!
Ballet is so much more than a hobby for me. It’s improved my physical fitness, mental sharpness, and overall well-being. I love the challenge of learning the RAD syllabus and performing the dances. I also draw inspiration from my favourite ballerina, Marianela Nuñez, who I admire greatly from her performances at the Royal Opera House.
I’m now hanging up my pointe shoes and looking forward to the Hungarian court dances featured in Grade 7! I’m also incredibly grateful for my supportive husband, who even took lessons from Janet on how to perfect my ballet bun for exams. The camaraderie and encouragement from my fellow students mean the world to me.”
Gina’s dedication and passion are a true inspiration to our dance community. We’re so proud of how far she’s come—and can’t wait to see what she achieves next!
